FACTORY
A recent TNO report describes the Dutch manufacturing industry as “above average in innovation and production”. According to the researchers, this is “crucial for solving societal challenges”. When it comes to sustainability, the manufacturing industry – and by extension the furniture sector – faces enormous challenges. Can we operate locally and still serve an international market? How do we integrate bio-based materials into furniture while meeting high quality standards? What solutions do we see for waste streams? And how do we maintain the balance between sustainable production and the continuity of our businesses?
Our iconic products, our locations, the importance of the family business and the crucial role of craftsmanship in our manufacturing process all point to the importance of continuity in the way we work. At the same time, we are constantly looking for innovation. The flexibility of craft seems to be the unifying factor. Craftsmanship defines both our origins and our future. We are used to integrating new materials and forms into existing processes. Or finding new ways to make existing products more sustainable. We know how to turn small innovations into big ones. For us, the factory is both a production site and a laboratory: the place where, step by step, a more sustainable world takes shape.
